About IBPS

The Banking sector in India is poised for a high trajectory growth with prospects for a bright career to thousands of new entrants. Here is a unique opportunity for aspirants for a career in 19 Public Sector Banks through a Single Common Examination, A Common Written Examination (CWE) will be conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) as a pre-requisite for selection of personnel. This system of Common Examination for recruitment of Probationary Officers/ Management Trainees has been approved by each of the 19 participating Public Sector Banks and the Managing Committee of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) with the consent of the Government of India.

IBPS, an autonomous body registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 and a Public Trust under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950, has been authorised by IBA and has received a mandate from the 19 Public Sector Banks listed below to conduct the Common Written Examination. The CWE for Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee posts will be conducted twice a year by IBPS.

Banking sector is top on Government jobs provider in India. There are around 22 PSB (Public Sector Banks) and 80 RRB (Regional Rural Banks) in India offering careers from clerical level to officer level.

Banking as a career provides a great challenge, it helps to develop analytical skills useful in a company’s strategies. It is one of the fastest rising sector which every individual wants to opt. It is not only meant for commerce or economics students but for all graduates with any educational background.

Most of the banking sector exams are conducted by IBPS (Institute of BankingPersonnel Selection) through CWE (Common Written Exam) except SBI and its Associates.

The selection procedure is based upon three stages:

STAGE 1: Written Exam

IBPS CWE Exam Pattern

Preliminary Examination: Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

SBI PO / Clerical Exam Pattern

Preliminary Examination: Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Main Examination: Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.

  1. Objective Test:The Objective Test is of 3 hours duration and consists of 4 sections for a total of 200 marks.The Objective Test will have separate timings for each section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the tests by securing the passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

The objective test is immediately followed by a descriptive test.

2. Descriptive Test:

Penalty for Wrong Answers

  • For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score.
  • If the total of the penalty for a test is in fraction, the marks obtained will be rounded off to the nearest integer, i.e if fraction exceeds by 0.50 or more, it will be rounded off to next higher integer.
  • If for any question a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as wrong even if one of the given answers happens to be right and there will be the same penalty of 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question deducted as penalty.
  • If a question is left blank, i.e no answer is given by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.

STAGE II : GD – PI

Candidates who qualify the cut-offs in the written exam are called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview in which they are graded to form a cumulative score for Final Selection.

STAGE III : Final Selection

In case of SBI exam : The final selection will be based on the marks scored in the written test, group discussion and interview. They marks will be converted to 100 and the selection will be made from the top ranked candidates in each category. In case of IBPS CWE Exam : Candidates who are successful will be issued scorecards.

Validity of Score Card

The score will be valid for a period of one year from the date of issue. The successful candidate can apply to any of the participating banks as and when the banks announce the vacancies.

Note: Each bank will have its own eligibility criteria in terms of age, qualification, minimum score required in the CWE and so on. Plus they carry out their own selection process like GD & PI.
