CAT Compulsory For MBA: CAT is not required to pursue MBA programs in Indian colleges. While CAT and CMAT are widely recognized entrance exams, they are not the only options for MBA aspirants. Many other MBA admission tests, such as XAT, are considered equivalent to CAT.
What is CAT exam eligibility?
As per the eligibility criteria, the candidate must have a Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST/PwD categories) from a recognized university or educational institution. There is no upper age limit for appearing in the CAT exam.
How many attempts for CAT are allowed?
There is no limit on the number of CAT entrance attempts set by the CAT exam authority. An aspirant can attempt the CAT exam multiple times to pass it.
What is the syllabus for the CAT exam?
The exam comprises of 3 sections— Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI/LR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). In the last few CATs, the order of the sections has been VARC first, followed by DILR, followed by QA. Switching between sections is not possible.
Does a CAT have negative marking?
Yes, both CAT and MAT have negative marking. In CAT, 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer in the non-MCQ section. In MAT, 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.
